ESTRAMET S 95 improves tool life, component cleanliness and coolant consumption in CNC machining
In CNC contract manufacturing, stable processes, high repeatability and short machining times are crucial for efficiency and quality. Together with Oemeta UK, the British manufacturing specialist Numachine Ltd. has systematically optimised its coolant processes – with measurable results.
Founded in 2019, Numachine manufactures complex CNC components for demanding sectors such as the automotive industry, medical technology and aerospace. The materials machined include castings, aluminium, stainless steel, structural steel and plastics. The metalworking fluid previously used posed particular challenges for the company when machining castings: tool life was too short during thread cutting and thread milling, residues were left on components and machines, and additional cleaning was required.
Following a technical analysis, Oemeta recommended the use of ESTRAMET S 95. This water-miscible metalworking fluid is based on ester oil and is free from fossil-based raw materials. It therefore supports both Numachine’s technical performance requirements and its sustainability goals.
During a six-month trial period, key performance indicators such as tool life, foaming, mist formation, residues on components and coolant behaviour were monitored. The results show significant improvements:
- nearly 40 per cent lower consumption and reduced costs for tap drills and thread milling cutters
- an increase in the service life of tap drills from around 60 to 90 components in a regularly produced series of castings
- Reduction in coolant consumption from approximately one drum every two to three weeks to approximately one drum every six weeks
- cleaner components and fewer downstream cleaning steps
- Virtually complete elimination of mist formation, evaporation and the odour of cooling lubricant
- Around 50% less effort and lower costs for regular machine cleaning
In addition to product performance, technical service was also a decisive factor for Numachine. Oemeta supports the company through regular cooling lubricant checks, site visit reports and condition analyses. This ensures that the systems can be operated reliably and economically in the long term.
For Numachine, the switch to ESTRAMET S 95 therefore makes a significant contribution to greater process reliability, lower tooling and cleaning costs, and more sustainable production. At the same time, the solution supports the company in its preparations for the intended ISO 14001 certification.
