ESTRAMET S 95 Improves Tool Life, Part Cleanliness, and Coolant Consumption in CNC Manufacturing
In CNC contract manufacturing, stable processes, high repeatability, and short machining times are crucial for efficiency and quality. Together with Oemeta UK, the British manufacturing specialist Numachine Ltd. has systematically optimized its coolant processes—with measurable results.
Founded in 2019, Numachine manufactures complex CNC components for demanding industries such as the automotive sector, medical technology, and aerospace. The materials machined include castings, aluminum, stainless steel, structural steel, and plastics. The metalworking fluid previously used posed particular challenges for the company when machining castings: tool life was too short during thread cutting and thread milling, residues remained on components and machines, and additional cleaning was required.
Following a technical analysis, Oemeta recommended the use of ESTRAMET S 95. This water-miscible metalworking fluid is based on ester oil and is free of fossil-based raw materials. As such, it supports both Numachine’s technical performance requirements and its sustainability goals.
During a six-month test phase, key performance indicators such as tool life, foaming, mist formation, residue on components, and coolant behavior were monitored. The results show significant improvements:
- nearly 40% lower consumption and reduced costs for tap drills and thread milling cutters
- An increase in the service life of tap drills from approximately 60 to 90 components in a regularly produced cast part series
- Reduction in coolant consumption from about one barrel every two to three weeks to about one barrel every six weeks
- cleaner parts and fewer downstream cleaning steps
- Virtually complete elimination of mist formation, evaporation, and coolant odor
- Approximately 50% less effort and lower costs for regular machine cleaning
In addition to product performance, technical service was also a decisive factor for Numachine. Oemeta supports the company through regular cooling lubricant inspections, site visit reports, and condition analyses. This ensures that the equipment can be operated reliably and economically over the long term.
For Numachine, the switch to ESTRAMET S 95 thus makes a significant contribution to greater process reliability, lower tooling and cleaning costs, and more sustainable production. At the same time, the solution supports the company in its preparations for the targeted ISO 14001 certification.
